Wetland : High Power Committee

The Hon'ble High Court, Calcutta in its order dated 03.02.2012 in respect to W.P. No. 606 of 2011 (Forum for Human, Legal and Ecological Rights, Bansdroni-vs-Union of India & Ors.) directed the State to constitute a High Power Committee to go through the grievances depicted in the W.P. and prepare a report thereafter proposing ways and means (both remedial and preventive) and submit the same to the Chief Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal, so that such problems do not occur in future.

Accordingly, a High Power Committee (HPC) was formed vide notification No.: EN/603/3C-08/2011, dated:15.03.2012 by the Department of Environment, Govt. of West Bengal. The said HPC, after dealing with the case submitted its report. Meanwhile, some cases related to wetlands/water bodies were further referred from time to time by the Hon'ble High Court to the HPC. All but one, of the orders given by the Hon'ble High Court, Calcutta vide order dated: 29.11.2013 relating to lowland at Dankuni in the case of PUBLIC & another-vs-Union of India & Ors (W.P. No. 461of 2013) has already been disposed of by the HPC.
